Metro Denver Residential Facility for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Their Children
Family Tree Roots of Courage is a confidential, emergency shelter for people actively fleeing domestic violence and those with children. When in shelter, we aim to keep survivors safe by providing advocacy, safety planning, community resources, health care and other supportive services for children and their parents.
Roots of Courage is an inclusive space and is dedicated to serving survivors and their children from all ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders and physical and mental abilities.

Residential and Supportive Services
Providing a confidential place to stay for survivors of domestic violence and those with children is just one component of Family Tree Roots of Courage. Those entering our residential facility will also have access to basic needs, work with our advocates to address trauma, receive information and community resources, while also being offered on-site health care. All of these supportive services provide the foundation survivors needs to make courageous decisions to be safe. Through one-on-one advocacy and support groups, survivors are given the opportunity to learn about domestic violence, the effect it has on their life and how to plan for their safety.
Who to Refer
We define domestic violence as personal, intimate partner violence and Family Tree Roots of Courage will assist individual survivors of domestic violence and those with children. It is Family Tree’s intent to provide shelter services to all survivors of domestic violence in need and who are in imminent danger from their intimate partners, including all gender identities, the LGBTQIA+ community and all racial and ethnic backgrounds. When Roots of Courage is at capacity, Family Tree advocates will make every effort to contact other agencies to find a safe space for those in need.
To Make a Referral:
Family Tree offers a 24-hour domestic violence crisis line, (303) 420-6752. The best way for Family Tree to assist is to have the survivor call the crisis line to speak directly with an advocate. The advocate will complete a phone assessment with the caller to make sure the shelter services are appropriate for the caller’s needs and then the advocate will offer safety planning and referrals to other agencies that may be able to best assist and/or assist with a plan to arrive at Roots of Courage safely.
