Individuals and families without reliable shelter are considered homeless.

Many households without a safe and stable place to live often have to move from location to location simply to have shelter. This may include motels, staying with friends or family members, sleeping in cars, or staying in shelters. Less than one-fifth of those experiencing homelessness live on the streets.

There are many reasons for homelessness which may include: job loss, high housing costs, changed family situations, physical and/or mental illnesses, drug abuse, family break-ups and domestic violence. Anyone is susceptible to these unfortunate events ultimately leading to homelessness and without resources like Family Tree, it may be difficult for vulnerable people to get back on their feet.
