We encourage volunteer attorneys to attend trainings offered by Family Tree, in particular Domestic Violence 101
COMMITMENT
We request volunteer attorneys to be available two to four times per year for the clinic – held the first Wednesday evening of the month from 6pm – 8pm at Family Tree’s Legal Advocacy office at Porchlight Family Justice Center (11100 W 8th Ave in Lakewood), and the third Wednesday of the month from 6pm – 8pm via Zoom.
Note: Volunteer attorneys are not expected to represent or offer representation to any client.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a licensed attorney with knowledge of Colorado Family Law.
- Knowledge of dissolution of marriage and allocation of parental responsibilities processes in Colorado
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, ability to work sometimes in chaotic environment.
- Must have compassion for victims of crime.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer phones, record messages, and direct calls to the appropriate staff and retrieve messages from voicemail. Document information and referral calls.
- Provide information and referral resources to callers and occasional “walk-ins” that may be in crisis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Assess each caller for homelessness by conducting a “phone screen” and recording the information on the appropriate form.
- Greet and assist office visitors, including children.
- Perform various office duties, which may include typing, copying, faxing, filing, sorting mail, addressing and stuffing envelopes and posting mail.

COMMITMENT

The hours are flexible during regular business hours (M-F, 9am-4:30pm).
Four hours per week is preferred.

- Participate in weekly team meetings, every Wednesday 12pm-2pm, to be a part of new developments in program, team goals, assisting clients and challenges within the program and with clients.

Homelessness Program Human Services & Social Work Intern

The mission of Family Tree is to partner with all people to prevent and overcome the interconnected issues of child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness to promote safety, healing and stability across generations. As a long standing non-profit human services agency, we are committed to empowering change and transforming the lives of vulnerable populations in our community.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Answer phone calls, emails and texts to Family Tree’s Homelessness Helpline and determine how to best serve and refer the client.
- Research and update Family Tree’s Homelessness Program’s resource guide and other printed resources.
- Attend team and organization-wide meetings, such as: Homelessness Program Team Meeting, Helpline Team Meeting, Connections Program Team Meeting, Gather & Grow, Family Tree Town Hall, etc.
- Assist case managers with client’s day-to-day needs, which can include shadowing case managers on home/site visits.
- Participate in trainings and tours of agencies/programs as they are offered, such as: training on domestic violence, co-occurring disorders such as mental illness and substance abuse and/or visiting other shelters and programs.
- Perform various administrative duties and attend to program donations.
- Assist clients with utility assistance applications.
- Optional: Take on a small caseload (3 – 5 clients) focusing on homelessness prevention.
Training & Support:
All Family Tree team members are required to complete Child
- Abuse/Neglect and Elder Abuse/Neglect mandated reporter training.
- Attend internal trainings, such as: Volunteer Orientation, Gather & Grow, Narcan Administration/Harm Reduction, etc.
- Onboarding includes trainings related to Trauma-Informed Care, housing policies, self-care, de-escalation, etc. as well as specific training tailored to the Homelessness Helpline.
Skills/Competencies:
- Must serve clients in a strengths-based, client-centered, trauma-informed and culturally competent manner.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Family Tree.
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks timely in a busy work environment.
- Demonstrate active listening and empathetic care.
- A willingness to learn about and desire to assist people experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
- Ability to independently find solutions to complicated problems/situations.

Time Commitment:
Family Tree’s Homelessness Program Interns are expected to be available for the duration of their semester, and/or up to 12 months.
Interns need to be available during the Homelessness Program’s business hours (M, W, Th, F 9am – 4pm; Tu 12 – 4pm).
Helpline team meetings are required and take place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 2 – 3pm. There are both in-person and virtual attendance options.
Work Environment:
This is an in-office position with very limited remote work available. We are located at 3805 Marshall St., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
Must have access to reliable transportation for each shift.

- Work with the safehouse team to provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management for victims of domestic violence in the shelter.
- Volunteers and Interns will provide information, referrals and support to callers on the 24-hour crisis hotline.

Position Summary
- The Domestic Violence Outreach Program Intern position is responsible for providing advocacy, individual and group support and education for survivors of domestic violence.
- Must demonstrate a commitment to serving and working with diverse populations.
- This position is also responsible for participating in outreach activities designed to inform the community of the dynamics of domestic violence, Family Tree’s Domestic Violence Support Services, and to engage survivors in those services.
- Some evenings required; ability to be flexible with schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Family Tree’s Strategic Plan, mission, vision, values and goals which will be provided.
- Engage all Family Tree programs and services in order to provide clients effective connection to relevant services at the agency.

- Assist survivors with in-depth safety planning and help to increase awareness of relevant community resources.
- Complete client documentation, statistics and client surveys in a timely manner.
- Continually strive to increase knowledge of community resources, dynamics of domestic violence, trauma-informed practices, impact of domestic violence on children, and other topics pertaining to the clients served by the program.
- Attend staff meetings, individual supervision sessions, required trainings, Family Tree orientation, Outreach Program training, onboarding, and other meetings as required.
- Provide immediate assistance to walk-in clients.
Coordinate and staff cases with other Outreach Program staff, and supervisor. - Answer general Outreach Program line/email, assess needs and offer appropriate interventions, safety planning and referrals. Return phone calls/email to survivors requesting services. Assess needs and schedule intakes.
- Maintain confidentiality per Family Tree policies and state and federal laws protecting victims of domestic violence.
- Work with other Family Tree staff in a cooperative manner that allows timely completion of work and to ensure smooth flow of work in programs and departments within the agency and the community.
- Represent Family Tree at networking events, prepare and present community workshops, and cultivate the growing network of community partnerships.
- Adhere to Family Tree Volunteer Handbook, and Domestic Violence Outreach Program procedures, grant goals and objectives.
- Work from PorchLight Family Justice Center in the shared community partner space at least one day a week to enhance community partnerships and services in Jefferson County.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
This position may require long periods of sitting or standing.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Ability to speak and hear in ordinary conversation and groups.
Normal vision is required with or without corrective lenses.
Training & Support
Trainings that are required:
- Volunteer Orientation, complete Navigator online trainings, and shadow navigators when possible.
Qualifications
- Experience working with survivors of domestic violence preferred.
- Must have some knowledge of trauma-informed practices and basic mental health issues.
- Experience and knowledge of social justice issues regarding gender-based violence, privilege and oppression, and systemic inequalities preferred.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated public speaking skills are necessary as this position requires the ability to provide educational trainings in the community.
- Basic computer competency necessary.
- Reliable transportation preferred.
- CBI, MVR and Central Registry checks required.

House of Hope: Children's Advocate & Case Manager Intern
Children’s Advocate & Case Management Intern
Key Responsibilities
- Assist staff with general house management/activities, case management, and advocacy.
- Serve as advocate for mothers working toward self-sufficiency goals, targeting skills that will help them to obtain and keep permanent housing.
- Help to oversee the guidelines of the program, including making sure that residents clean the living spaces within the facility, promoting their children’s education through regular school attendance and participation in homework time after school, as well as other educational/social activities, and practicing positive interaction with their children and the other residents.
- Other potential responsibilities
- Develop skills as a case manager and/or children’s advocate within the residential shelter for women with children who are homeless.
- Build a case load of clients or provide routine facilitation of activities (wellness, educational or recreational) for residents.
- Research and develop collaborations with partner community agencies for related services and conduct program evaluation with prospective or former clients.

Training & Support
We ask each volunteer to attend the following trainings led by Family Tree experts:
- Volunteer Orientation, Domestic Violence Symposium and Homelessness 101.
- Children’s Advocate and Case Management Intern will have additional training from House of Hope staff.
Commitment
Children’s Advocate and Case Management Interns are expected to be available for 6 months to one year. The hours are flexible during the day. Actual times and days vary depending on the program and volunteer schedule.
Qualifications
- Completion of volunteer orientation and approved background check.
- Desire and ability to work with homeless families and experience working in residential facility and/or working with homeless families preferred.
- Ability to represent the agency positively and appropriately.
- Provide positive role modeling for families and maintain confidentiality for client information.
